Are Canadians Peacekeepers?
Canada are known as peacekeepers. What some people are debating about is if Canada does their peacekeeping missions for their own selfish reasons, or do they naturally believe in the act of making peace?
Haiti Earthquake (2010)
On January 12 2010, Haiti has been in a devastating earthquake. The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.0 starting in the center of the town near Léogâne. More than 220000 people were killed, 300000 were injured, and more than one million were homeless.
Canada provided humanitarian aid to Haiti by providing 400
million dollars and gave water and food to the people in need.
Canada has been donating to Haiti since 2006, (Before the earthquake) which is a total of over a billion dollars for the development of Haiti. Canada has the wealth to help other developing countries such as Haiti. Since Canada has been donating before the earthquake in Haiti has started, we are simply donating money for the benefit for their country and not for our own pride and ego.
Haiti is a third world country. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world with a poverty rate of 77 percent. In this crisis, Canada responded very efficiently and appropriately. As you know, Canada is a first world country with great health care and money. Haiti simply cannot trade with us or have anything to offer unlike the united states or England. This also proves that we are truly doing our job as peacekeepers and fulfilling our role.

Mali (2013)
In 2013, Mali were experiencing fights along the borders of the country and rebel activity and protests for freedom occurred. Many people had no food and were dying of starvation.
Canada started acting to this situation. Canada contributed the c-17 aircraft to help supply troops and resources. Canada also sent doctors to aid anyone who was injured. 112 million dollars was given since 2008 for annual aid. This proves Canada being peacekeepers because Canada gave so much resources and help to Mali to help rebuild their country. Canada contributed a lot of effort to help Mali and I believe that it was the act of peacekeeping. No country would give that much money and aid to another country just to gain something to benefit their own country.

World War II (1939-1945)
Between the years of 1939 and 1945, Europe and most of Asia experienced the second world war. Adolf Hitler, (The scary man in the picture) It all started when Nazi Germany invaded Poland on September 1st 1939. That concluded on September 2nd 1945. Later Japan invaded China and Europe. That also concluded with a unconditional surrender from Germany in May 8th 1945. The conflict unfortunately spread in Africa, north America, and south America. This was the largest conflict in which many countries were involved in. For the grand total, there were about 50 million deaths that occurred because of this war.
Canada fought alongside with the British and the U.S in the war. Canada played a big part in the Battle of the Atlantic as well. Canada also sent many supplies to the allies and provided many ships to supply the resources across sea.
By the end of the war, Canada had the third largest navy in the world. More than 900 Canadian soldiers were killed in the war. Canada sent fighter pilots to help Britain in the invasion of Britain.
Canada demonstrates a tremendous amount of peacekeeping in this war because we have risked many of our soldiers to help other countries in need. If you are debating whether Canada is acting on these peacekeeping missions for our own benefits this war demonstrates why that statement can be false. If Canada was selfish, we wouldn't risk our own troops to help other countries such as Poland and Britain from invasions. Instead, we supplied more than 80 aircrafts for the war in Europe.

To conclude, Canada is and will always be known as a PEACEKEEPER. These examples of our previous actions demonstrates that Canada are truly peacekeepers.
